As a triathlon coach, I see many triathletes carefully balancing the act of spouse, parent, employee, triathletes and the list goes on! Life can be very chaotic and most of the time I certainly feel like there just are not enough hours in the day. It’s very much a hard balancing act to get right. Attending a triathlon training camp could be the answer to getting in some quality training.
Camps take place at all times throughout the year. Some camps are in the winter, some in the preseason, and also in the heart of race season. Every camp has a purpose and it’s essential to ensure the camp fits your goals and needs.
Training camp timing
- Winter training camp: A camp to escape your local weather and get in quality outdoor training.
- Spring training camp: A training camp is geared to preparing the body for in-season fitness.
- In-season training camp: Often specific for a certain course or event.
No matter when a triathlon training camp is timed throughout the year many factors make it unique from your day-to-day training. Such as removing yourself from your regular training environment. Focusing on skill development. Minimizing many of life’s other distractions. Realistic goal setting and planning, are two of the biggest things athletes get from triathlon training camp. As well as a big boost in confidence and motivation.
Rest and recover
Rest is an important principle of training and when you’re at a training camp. You have more than enough opportunity to get a solid night’s sleep and rest between sessions. With the extra rest, you’re having you’ll probably surprise yourself with how much training you can tolerate and how you can back up the days.
Boost your confidence and motivation
With the change in environment, and the miles you’ve done you’ll always leave a training camp feeling fit, healthy, and good about yourself. Just a few days can give you a boost in fitness and provide you with the confidence and motivation to go back home and continue to build on your fitness into your goal race.
